Patongo and Chicken McJok for Breakfast

Yesterday, I posted a writeup about McDonald's kraprao (basil chicken) and pineapple pies in Thailand. This morning, I'm in the mood for a good breakfast, and I decided to order from McDonald's once again so as to have something interesting to share with you here today!
I ordered McJok (rice porridge), patongo (Thai-Chinese fried donuts), and the typical breakfast sides of hash brown and iced coffee.

Jok is one of the most popular Thai breakfast dishes. Jok is a rice porridge (like congee), and is typically served with meat such as chicken, pork, or fish, chopped green onions, poached eggs, and other hearty ingredients. It's a cheap, filling, and delicious way to start the day.

McJok is a wonderful modern fast food take on the traditional rice porridge. Instead of using balls of pork or chicken, McJok uses chopped pieces of McDonald's breaded and fried chicken tenders. The congee is also served with green onions, or shallots. You can add a fried egg on top for 10 baht extra (which I definitely recommend; I never eat jok without an egg!).
I also wanted to try McDonald's take on patongo, traditional Chinese-style fried donuts. You can order a set of three or five pieces. I opted for three, which came with a small cup of sweetened condensed milk for dipping.

Even though it's a fast food order, I was surprised at how good the jok actually was. It didn't taste cheap or mass produced at all. On the contrary, it seemed to be made of high-quality ingredients, and tasted quite traditional. The serving was a great size, and contained plenty of delicious McDonald's chicken.
I ordered the breakfast set, which came with a fresh McDonald's hash brown and a cup of iced coffee.

The patongo were great, and tasted pretty traditional. Although they were more expensive the 1 THB per piece patongo you can typically find on your local street corner, McDonald's patongo were also a lot bigger.
The dough was sweet, but not overly so. The condensed milk dipping sauce added the traditional extra sweetness to the patongo. Perhaps the McDonald's patongo were not quite as light and fluffy as the fresh-made ones that I can buy from the local shop on my street corner, but they were still delightful. To be truthful, I've never met a patongo that I didn't enjoy thoroughly!

Where to get it
Chicken McJok and McDonald's Patongo can be ordered at any McDonald's in Thailand (which can be found all over the country in nearly every shopping mall or shopping center). You can also order online for home delivery with a food delivery app such as Grab or LineMan, or through McDonald's own Thailand website, McDelivery.
While the patongo can be ordered at any time of day (and makes for a great late-night snack or dessert), the Chicken McJok is available exclusively for breakfast. Check the breakfast hours of your local McDonald's to be sure if it is available for order.
