Malaysian Green Curry Chicken
World of Fast Food: KFC Malaysia
I love trying the local fast food wherever I travel. I always think it’s fun and kind of an adventure to hit up a fast food joint in the airport when I’m about to fly home after a trip to another country. It’s become one of my travel traditions!
Malaysia is famous for its amazing and diverse cuisine, and within Malaysia, Penang is known as one of the country’s best spots for delicious street food. I ate my fill (probably way too much!) over the few days that I spent on the island. When it was time to fly back to Thailand, though, I couldn’t resist stopping in at the airport’s KFC. A sign advertising “Green Chili Crunch” chick caught my eye.

I thought that maybe the image in the ad would be a little exaggerated. I had no idea that the chicken would actually be THIS green! I was wrong.
The Green Chili Crunch chicken from KFC Malaysia is regular KFC fried chicken, but instead of being fried with the typical 11 secret herbs and spices, the chicken is coated in a special green chili lime powder.
When I took a bite, I pretty much fell in love with it. It’s not super spicy, just a little zesty. The lime is the major flavor, which gives the chicken an almost Mexican (and definitively tropical) flavor. The chili and spices are a bit of an aftertaste, which goes a long way to finishing off the zing from the lime chicken.
I don’t always love the dishes that I try when I visit McDonald’s, KFC, or Pizza Hut abroad, but I love trying them. This time, though, I highly recommend it. Green Chili Crunch chicken from KFC Malaysia is a 10/10 in my book! I just hope that they bring this dish to Thailand soon. I could very well see it being my go-to.
My only complaint was that the chili lime coating stained my fingers green!
