A Waco, Texas institution since 1975, Schmaltz's Sandwich Shoppe originally opened up on the Baylor University campus before becoming so popular that they needed to move to a larger location downtown. Today, Schmaltz's has two locations - in downtown Waco and on Valley Mills Drive and is still known - nearly half a century later - for baking the absolute best sandwiches in the State of Texas. But what makes these sandwiches so special?

Schmaltz's Sandwiches are made with the absolute freshest ingredients, and every sandwich you order will be of exemplary quality. What makes these sandwiches so special, however, is the bread. Every Schmaltz's sandwich is served on a fresh-baked bun of Schmaltz's famous homemade bread. Every morning before sunrise, the folks at Schmaltz's are up making their delicious rustic artisan-style bread by hand. The bread is then oven toasted to develop a crunchy crust, while remaining light, soft, and airy in the center.

While the bread is amazing, the sandwiches are not complete without their generous ingredients. We ordered two of their most famous classic sandwiches: the classic ham and cheese and "The Schmaltz".

The ham and cheese was stuffed with several different types of cheeses, a generous portion of deli ham, aromatic ingredients, and a healthy portion of Schmaltz's iconic garlic butter.

The Schmaltz is the deli's most iconic sandwich. Of course, I had to order it! The Schmaltz consists of a delicious sandwich of mozzarella, cheddar, and parmesan cheese with generous portions of ham, salami, lunchmeat, fresh lettuce, tomato, onion, black olives, and mustard. The fresh-baked bread is slathered in Schmaltz's famous garlic butter, which soaks into the crispy bun to permeate it with a delicious buttery garlic flavor.

I cannot recommend it enough!
