Bánh Mì Hồng Hoa in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

It was a sweltering late night in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly called Saigon), Vietnam's biggest and busiest city. After a wonderful local Múa rối nước (water puppetry) performance, we were hungry for some great southern Vietnamese food! One of the most highly recommended shops in all of Ho Chi Minh City is Bánh Mì Hồng Hoa a banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) restaurant known for its fresh bread and amazing fillings.

Is this the best banh mi in Saigon?

The banh mi was absolutely stuffed with ingredients. We ordered the "bread with extra mixed meats" for 35,000 VND (about $1.50). It was full of pork pie, jambon, ham, and sausage with a thick spread of mayonnaise and iconic Vietnamese pate. the sandwich was topped with shredded carrots and cucumber for an extra crunch. 

What we liked about this banh mi in particular was the special bread. Sometimes the baguettes can be too crunchy, and the crust can hurt your mouth. The bread here is always freshly baked, and while it is crunchy on the outside, the inside is perfectly soft and warm.
