Chiang Mai Spicy (Northern Thai-style Pork Hamburger)

Paper Butter is a tiny restaurant with just two or three tables inside, and a few more out on the covered patio. We took a seat outside. The restaurant is built in the backyard of The Yard, a trendy hostel tucked away down a quiet soi in Bangkok's trendy Ari neighborhood.
Of course, we wanted to try their specialty: the Chiang Mai Spicy, a juicy pork burger patty topped with cheddar cheese and barbecued pork floss, and flavored with tons of northern-style (Chiang Mai) spices, which were grilled right into the patty.

We ordered two burgers, a side of curly fries, and (what else?) two ice-cold stainless-steel cups of root beer.
The pork burger itself was spicy, but not so hot. It was more spicy - as in "made with lots of spices" - than spicy - as in "hot". The blend of northern Thai spices was really interesting, and since Thai food typically uses a lot of pork, they went really well with the burger patty.
One of the things that made the burgers so special were the fresh, homemade butter buns, which were buttery, sweet, and soft. The burger's weren't cheap, but they also weren't unreasonable for Bangkok, and I can see why Paper Butter has become such a popular hangout in the evenings.

Paper Butter is located on the grounds of The Yard Hostel Bangkok, 51 Phahon Yothin 5, แขวงพญาไท Phaya Thai, Bangkok 10400. It's just a short walk from BTS Ari station in Bangkok's Ari neighborhood.
