Crispy Tom Yum Noodles with Fish Balls
at Talat Uncle Perm, Bangkok, Thailand
Hearty, filling, sour, herbal, and just a little bit spicy, this tom yum soup with crispy deep-fried Thai noodles and fish balls is an excellent way to start the day! We ordered this dish at the local market behind the Thai Airways HQ in Bangkok, Thailand, where busy businesspeople and locals from around the neighborhood gather each morning for a great breakfast.
When you think of tom yum soup, you probably imagine a rich red broth filled with herbs and prawns. What you probably don't imagine is a bowl full of crispy noodles, fish balls, and bean sprouts topped with ground chili!
This dish is a bit uncommon, which makes it special! Often, these crispy noodles are served with a traditional Thai brown broth, but the tom yum flavors - rich and herbal, sour, and a little spicy - make for a really unique combination.
