Rad-Nha, or Crispy Noodles with Pork Gravy

by Chakki (ภัตตาคารจ๊ากกี่), Bangkok, Thailand

Chakki is a Michelin Bib Gourmand award-winning restaurant that has been serving up their famous rad-nha (crispy noodles with gravy) on Bangkok's Rangnam Road for over 30 years! With a simple menu and few choices, you know it's going to be good.

Chakki's menu is very simple. While they have a few items to offer, nearly everyone comes for their signature rad-nha. Just choose what kind of noodles you want (stir fried flat noodles, crispy vermicelli, or deep-fried egg noodles).

Then, pick what meat you want in your gravy. You can choose from pork, chicken, beef, prawn, crab, and fish.

Crispy deep fried egg noodles with pork is the most popular. It's the traditional way of eating rad-nha, and is what I prefer.

The super crispy golden noodles were topped with a generous portion of boiled pork, a few stalks of kale, and a big serving of thick and sticky brown pork gravy. It's best to eat a little bit of everything in each bite. The crunch of the noodles is really nice with a piece of gravy-soaked pork.

I was really delighted with my meal! Rad-nha is a simple dish, but it can be easy to mess up if the gravy is too thick or chunky. This was just right! It's no surprise to me why Chakki has been awarded a coveted Michelin award.

Traveler's Tips

Chakki is located in Bangkok's vibrant Victory Monument neighborhood. The monument itself is an icon of Bangkok, and stands in the center of one of the city's busiest traffic circles. With dozens of bus lines converging around the monument, it's one of Bangkok's main transport hubs.

The monument was built in 1941 to commemorate a Thai victory against the Vichy French colonial government of Indochina in the Franco-Thai war (1940-1941). With an unexpected Thai victory, Thailand (which literally means "Free Land"), remains the only country in Southeast Asia never to have been conquered or colonized by a foreign power.
