Baguette with Jam and Butter
by Lin's Cafe, Savannakhet, Laos
Laos is a small Socialist republic in Southeast Asia. It's the only landlocked Southeast Asian nation, and one of the least-visited countries in the region.
Laos, like neighboring Cambodia and Vietnam, was once colonized by France as part of its Indochina territories.
There are still a few hints here and there of French influence on Laos; mainly in its cafe and pastry culture. One morning, I paid a visit to Lin's Cafe in Savannakhet, Laos to order breakfast: a baguette with jam and butter and a strong cup of iced Laotian coffee.

This is one of the simplest and heartiest breakfasts you can get in Laos.
A full baguette is served with a bowl of strawberry jam and butter, alongside a side of fresh iced Laotian coffee and a glass of water. While simple, it's one of my favorite and most filling go-to breakfasts when I'm traveling throughout Indochina.
This breakfast was similar to another wonderful breakfast I had in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia.
