Garlic Pork
by Xokxay Restaurant, Savannakhet, Laos
One of my favorite local restaurants in Savannakhet, Laos is Xokxay Restaurant, a very small open-air kitchen on the side of a quiet street. It's nothing fancy, but the food is tasty and the prices are cheap.
One morning, I visited Xokxay for breakfast. I decided to order a plate of Laotian garlic pork with rice.

A generous portion of thick-cut fried pork is topped with a heap of crispy fried garlic. The dish is served with an inverted bowl of steamed white rice, half of a boiled egg, and a bowl of sweet and savory red sauce similar to moo daeng sauce.
It's a fairly simple breakfast, but it's filling and delicious.
