Red Barbecued Duck
by Hua Seng Hong Restaurant, Bangkok, Thailand
Hua Seng Hong is a famous old restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand's Chinatown. It's so popular that they now have a few branches at shopping malls throughout the city, but their location on Yaowarat Road is the original branch, which has been opened for years. It's very popular, and a great place for a traditional Thai-Chinese meal.
We stopped in for an early lunch to try Hua Seng Hong's famous barbecued duck.

It's not the cheapest restaurant, but the portion size was generous and was plenty to share between two people. The duck was served in the traditional style with a side of steamed Chinese kale, slices of sweet pickled ginger, and a cup of a sweet and savory dipping sauce. It's best to have a little bit of each ingredient in every bite for the perfectly balanced mix of flavors.

The duck itself is sweet, tender, and very juicy. It's some of the softest duck meat I've ever had!
There is an expansive menu of classic Thai-Chinese dishes, most of which evolved from traditional Cantonese food. The food is excellent, and the service is quick. There are plenty of places to sit, although the restaurant can get busy at lunch and dinner time.
