Khanom Krok Talay, or Thai Pancakes with Seafood
at Na Wat Market, Koh Larn, Thailand
"Khanom krok" typically refers to a type of old-fashioned coconut pudding or pancake which is usually eaten as a snack or dessert in Thailand. The pancakes are cooked in a special pan with several tiny cup-shaped indentations into which the coconut batter is poured and cooked.
This dish is similarly called "khanom krok", but it's a bit different. The Thai word "talay" means "seafood", so naturally these Thai pancakes are stuffed full of some of the world's freshest seafood and use a flour-based batter rather than sweet coconut.

Khanom krok talay typically consists of small, round cup-shaped pancakes cooked filled with a mixture of seafood such as shrimp, squid, and mussels, along with various fresh herbs. It's a delightful combination of sweet and savory flavors, and it's often enjoyed as a snack or appetizer in Thailand.
The khanom krok talay are cooked in front of you and served fresh and piping hot with a drizzle of a mild Thai-style chili sauce for extra flavor.
If you're on the island, don't miss out on this dish - it's not so easy to find in Bangkok!

Location
I ordered khanom krok talay at Talad Na Wat, or the Koh Larn Night Market (near Na Baan Pier and Wat Mai Samraan) on Koh Larn. The market is just a short walk from the pier where the ferry arrives and departs.
