Khao Na Ped, or Thai Red Duck on Rice
at Muang Thai - Phatra Market, Bangkok, Thailand
I always highlight the exciting and unusual dishes here on my blog, but I sometimes forget to show off the normal everyday food that I eat as an expat in Bangkok, Thailand.
One of my favorite street food dishes that I have once every week or two is khao na ped, or red duck with rice. It's a simple, hearty, and filling dish that has a ton of flavor and is found all across Thailand at markets and food courts in every city and town.

Khao na ped features slices of succulent roasted duck served over a heaping spoonful of steamed jasmine rice accompanied by a savory, slightly sweet sauce made from soy, oyster sauce, and duck drippings. It's a flavorful, comforting meal that can be found in many Thai restaurants and street food stalls.
I added a spoon of the optional dark vinegar with pickled chilies on top of my duck. In my opinion, it adds a much richer, darker, and spicier flavor to the already sweet red sauce which coats the duck.

The dish was served with a small bowl of the requisite broth which always comes alongside any Thai duck or chicken dish.
