Nasi Kandar Line Clear
by Restoran Nasi Kandar Line Clear, Penang, Malaysia
One evening in Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia, I stepped into an unassuming and narrow alleyway to eat at one of the town's most famous restaurants.
Line Clear serves up plates of nasi kandar, a northern Malaysian dish made up of various curries, sides, and gravies served atop a heaping mountain of rice.

There's no set menu at a nasi kandar restaurant.
When you order your food, the staff will serve whichever dishes you choose atop a serving of rice and will calculate the price at the end. I decided to order a plate of rice topped with stewed chicken, shredded cabbage, a boiled egg, and sliced cucumber.
In my opinion, nasi kandar is best enjoyed with a cup of Malaysian iced tea sweetened with condensed milk. I ordered iced Malaysian tea, but their hot tea is delicious as well.

A full plate loaded with several items and curry served with a glass of tea will cost a reasonable few ringgit. Just point to the dishes that you'd like. The staff at Nasi Kandar Line Clear can speak English and will be happy to help you with your order.
Location
Nasi Kandar Line Clear is located in the alleyway beside 161 & 177 Penang Road, George Town, 10000 George Town, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia. The restaurant is easy to spot due to its popularity. It's often busy at all times of day.

There are plenty of tables set up in the restaurant's alley, but if you arrive at rush hour you may have to wait for a few minutes to get a seat. I recommend arriving at off hours in order to visit the restaurant when it's not super packed.
