Suan Cai Yu, or Sichuan Fish with Pickled Vegetables
Traditional Szechuan Fish Soup in Bangkok-Thailand
While Bangkok is renowned as one of the greatest hubs of Thai food in the world, it's also an incredible place to find authentic Chinese food. Bangkok is home to one of Thailand's largest Chinese-Thai populations, and the city's Chinatown at Yaowarat Road is the oldest in the world!
Suan cai yu is a Sichuan Chinese dish that has recently become popular in Thailand. This herbal and spicy mala soup is super delicious and filling and has become one of my wife's favorite meals for a special occasion.

The soup is made from super soft pieces of tender sea bass stewed in a savory herbal broth along with a number of different types of pickled vegetables, garlic, chili, mala spices, Sichuan peppers, and green onions. The stew is served over rice to help mellow out some of the stronger spicy flavors.
The portion size at La Meow was way too big for the two of us, but we were able to get the leftovers to take away for a nice lunch the next day.
We also ordered a serving of grilled tofu sprinkled with chili paste, sesame, and green onion as a starter. The tofu was perfectly cooked so that it was crispy on the outside and perfectly soft on the inside.
