Awaji Gyu Burger and Kirin Beer
at Narita Airport, Tokyo, Japan
I had a very short layover in Tokyo between two flights. There wasn't enough time to leave the airport, and I really didn't have enough time for a sit-down Japanese meal at one of Narita Airport's many wonderful restaurants. Fortunately, there was a small snack bar near my gate. I decided to order an Awaji gyu burger and a draft of Kirin beer while I waited for my flight to board.

Awaji gyu is a special type of wagyu, or Japanese premium beef, from Awaji, an island near Kobe, Japan. Awaji gyu is celebrated for its exceptional quality and delicate flavor and comes exclusively from cattle with well-defined pedigrees, born, bred, and processed on Awaji Island. The cattle's high-quality feed and the lush environment of Awaji Island contribute to the beef's remarkable taste, making it a sought-after delicacy in Japan's rich culinary culture.
The beef was served on top of a pile of sweet grilled onions on a grilled and steamed bun. The meat was super tender and juicy, and when added to the sweetness of the caramelized onions, there was no need for any type of sauce or condiment. The ingredients spoke for themselves.

Since I was just transiting in Japan, I didn't have any yen on me, but because the shop is inside the airport, they also accept US dollar. The price was 950 yen for the burger and 500 yen for a draft of Kirin beer. In USD, the price came out to an even $10, which is pretty reasonable!

Location
I bought this burger at JAL Plaza, a snack bar and gift shop located in Terminal 2 at Narita Airport. Besides burgers and beer, they also serve ice cream, coffee, tea, and sell a number of souvenirs, snacks, and drinks. The shop is located inside security at Terminal 2, 1-1 Furugome, Narita, Chiba 286-0104, Japan.
