Che-Po, or Mixed Meat on Rice, by Prachak (ประจัก): Famous Roast Duck Restaurant on Bangkok's Charoenkrung Road
Che-Po, or Mixed Meat on Rice
by Prachak Roasted Duck, Bangkok, Thailand
While Prachak, a famous old restaurant on Charoenkrung Road alongside the river in Bangkok, Thailand, is most famous for their world-renowned roasted duck (it's in the name, after all!), the restaurant serves a pretty good selection of roasted meats.
Open since 1909, Prachak is a truly legendary restaurant. The shop is small, cramped, and humble, and the clientele comes from all walks of life. The food at Prachak speaks for itself and is well-known throughout Thailand.
This visit, I decided to order che-po, or mixed meat on rice (95 baht), so that I could sample a little bit of everything on offer.

Prachak specializes in roast meat, and this dish came with a serving of red pork (moo daeng), crispy pork belly (moo krob), sweet Chinese pork sausage (kun chiang), two large round slices of a soft, flavorful, and chewy mixed pork meat sausage, and of course, Prachak's world-famous roasted duck over a big scoop of rice.
The dish was served with a traditional Chinese-Thai brown gravy and the requisite cucumber slices found with nearly every Thai dish.
The moo krob was chewy and fatty with a perfectly blistered crispy skin. The kun chiang sausage was sweet with a nice, toothsome texture. The mixed pork sausage was a little too soft and chewy for my taste, but the flavor was excellent. Everything was great, but the roasted duck was the best part. It's not surprising, roasted duck is this restaurant's signature, and they've been making it for well over a century!

More in the area
Charoenkrung Road, the first paved road in Bangkok, is home to some of the city's most storied and delicious restaurants, but is often overlooked by tourists and travelers.
For ambience, check out the nearby Jack's Bar, a simple bar built on a rickety pier overlooking the river, which serves cold beer and classic Thai dishes.
I also recommend Sarnies for coffee, their famous sourdough bread, or one of their iconic Thai fusion dishes like tom yum eggs benedict.
Location
Prachak Roasted Duck is located in Bangkok's Old Town near Assumption Cathedral on Charoenkrung Road. The nearest public transportation stop is BTS Saphan Taksin (also easily reachable from Sathorn / Central Pier by boat). It's just a short 5-minute walk from the station.
