Pork Wonton Tom Yum Soup
by Pork Tom Yum Noodle in Bangkok, Thailand
Tom yum is considered to be one of the national dishes of Thailand. While tom yum kung, a spicy and sour soup made with shrimp, is probably the best-known form of tom yum, there are so many different ways to serve this flavorful dish, from dry noodles to fried rice.
I was passing through Lat Phrao, a neighborhood in Bangkok's Chatuchak district, and stopped in at a new noodle shop just outside of Lat Phrao MRT station. The shop, appropriately enough, is called "Pork Tom Yum Noodle", and after sitting down and browsing the menu, I decided to order a bowl of tom yum soup with pork wontons.

Unlike the crispy fried tom yum wontons that I enjoyed in Bangkok's Chinatown a while back, these dumplings were steamed and served in a soup.
The large dumplings were stuffed full of generous portions of flavorful and toothsome pork and were topped with a heap of bean sprouts, crushed peanuts, tiny dried shrimp, green onions, crispy fried pork cracklings, and other herbs and aromatics. The ingredients were topped with the shop's house tom yum soup, a big pot of which is always bubbling away behind the counter.
The tom yum broth here is slightly sweeter and less spicy than other tom yum broths that I've had before, but I really liked it, and I appreciated the filling portions and generous servings of ingredients.
Pork Tom Yum Noodle is located at 469 Ratchadaphisek Rd, Chom Phon, Chatuchak, Bangkok 10900 just outside of the Lat Phrao MRT station's park and ride exit and near the interchange with the MRT yellow line monorail.
