Thai Beef Noodle Soup with Australian Angus, Beef Balls, Braised Beef, and Tenderloin
by Ket O Cha Beef Noodle (เกตุโอชา), Bangkok, Thailand
A small stall selling bowls of Ket O Cha's legendary soup has opened at the Gourmet Market inside MRT Ladphrao Station, and since it's near my neighborhood, I had to give it a try.
I decided to order the most expensive "everything" option - noodle soup with imported Australian angus, braised beef, tenderloin, and beef balls (150 THB) - so that I could get the full experience. I had my choice of noodle, and I picked my favorite - egg noodles.

Ket O Cha has been serving up legendary braised beef noodles in Bangkok, Thailand for over 40 years. What began as a humble family-run shophouse in 1980 has since grown into a beloved institution, drawing generations of locals and food lovers. The restaurant’s enduring popularity stems from its unwavering consistency and a secret family recipe that’s been passed down throughout the decades. Recognized by the Michelin Guide with a Bib Gourmand award and hailed by Thai foodies as one of the city’s best beef noodle spots, Ket O Cha has managed to evolve while staying true to its roots.
The soup is made from a deeply flavorful, aromatic broth made from over 20 herbs and spices. The beef is melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the beef balls are perfectly springy and toothsome. I was amazed at the flavorful, umami-rich broth. Sometimes, the smell of beef can be too strong for me, but they have somehow perfected a delicious soup that both tastes and smells excellently rich, herbal, and savory.
I don't often eat beef, but with such a high reputation, there's no way I could pass up a bowl of Ket O Cha braised beef noodle soup. A serving of egg noodles was topped with generous portions of braised beef, angus, tenderloin, and Ket O Cha's famous beef balls, and was served with a garnish of crispy fried garlic, chopped green onion, bean sprouts, and cilantro to add extra aromatic flavors.
I can honestly say that this was the best and most tender beef that I've ever had, and the exemplary beef balls were also something very special.
I hope to pay a visit to Ket O Cha's flagship restaurant sometime soon!

Menu and Prices
Prices are a little steep for Thai food, but not too high considering the quality of the ingredients (plus, beef tends to be much more expensive in Thailand than other meats as it is not as commonly used in Thai cuisine). The most expensive bowl of noodle soup, which comes with Australian angus, tenderloin, braised beef, and beef balls, costs 150 baht (about $5 USD), which I think is reasonable.

Location
While Ket O Cha's original location is located elsewhere, they run a small stall at Gourmet Market inside the Latphrao MRT Station located at Lat Phrao Rd, Chom Phon, Chatuchak, Bangkok 10900. The menu here is smaller than that of the full restaurant, but don't worry! The main reason to eat at Ket O Cha is to enjoy their famous braised beef noodle soup, which you can order here.
