Beef Olive Egg Noodles

I tried a new noodle restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand's Ari neighborhood the other day. The beef olive noodles at Dan Dan Noodles pack a powerful umami punch.
This bowl of tasty egg noodles was topped with a ton of ingredients. The bowl was piled high with stir-fried ground beef, garlic confit, crispy wonton skins, crispy shallot, scallions, and a raw egg yolk. I like to mix all of the ingredients up so that every bite has a burst of diverse flavors and textures.

The "secret ingredient" of this dish is the black Chinese olive which is mixed into the minced beef. Chinese olives are not related to the Mediterranean olive, which is more commonly found in Western cuisine. Their taste is distinctly astringent with a slightly sweet and tangy flavor. Unlike Mediterranean olives, which are known for their rich oil content, Chinese olives are commonly pickled, candied, or used in traditional Chinese medicine and cuisine. In this dish, they add a rich, umami flavor to the beef when minced and stir-fried together.

A bowl of noodles comes with a side of two soft steamed wontons and a small cup of broth to accompany the dish.

Menu
Dan Dan Noodles serves a classic bowl of chicken noodles for 75 baht ("regular") or 105 baht ("special", or large sized). They also sell Szechuan noodles and Hong Kong-style roasted pork noodles. However, I think that their amazing beef olive noodles are their most exemplary dish! It will cost 125 baht (about $5) for a regular-sized bowl and 17 baht (about $6) for a "special", or large, bowl.
It's simple enough to order from the menu. Just choose between thin egg noodles, flat wheat noodles, or glass noodles, then pick the dish that you want from the four options and specify the size. Thai and English menus are available.
